What Is Gua Sha Therapy?
Gua Sha (pronounced gwah-shah) is a traditional East Asian healing technique that involves gently scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool, usually made of jade, rose quartz, or horn. The goal is to release muscle tension, improve circulation, and move stagnant “qi” (energy) in the body.
The treatment is applied with oil and gentle pressure, and may cause temporary red or purple marks (called sha) on the skin — a normal and expected part of the healing process that usually fades within a few days.
Gua Sha is especially helpful for:
-
Neck and shoulder tension
-
Headaches or migraines
-
Facial puffiness and skin rejuvenation
-
Muscle stiffness and pain
-
Immune support during colds or flu
-
Detoxification and circulation
At The Needle Lady Acupuncture Clinic, Gua Sha may be used as a standalone therapy or combined with acupuncture to enhance the effects. A facial version of Gua Sha is also available for clients seeking a natural glow and improved skin tone.
